"No way!" you shout.
"Ha! Gotcha!" he laughs.
"Oh..." you say. "Guess I'll be on my way then."
"OK, Brad," says the officer. "Bye now."
You walk to the door, but find it locked.
"Uh," you say. "The door's locked."
"You didn't really think I could just let leave, did you?" asks the officer.
"Um... yeah, kinda."
The officer takes a pistol out from his desk drawer and points it at you.
"OK, Brad, now just step away from the door."
You step away from the door.
The officer walks over to the door and unlocks it.
"I was just kidding," he says. "Go ahead, get outta here."
"Oh, heh heh," you say. "Thanks."
You walk past him and open the door.
"Take it easy, Brad."
"Yeah, uh, see you 'round," you say.
You walk out to the van and start it up.
About half-way home your van blows a tire.
You pull over and start to change it with the spare from under the van, when another car pulls over and parks in front of your van. A man steps out and walks toward you. It's the recruiting officer!
"Need a little help?" he asks.
"Were you following me?" you ask.
"Nope. Just headed home in this direction."
"Oh."
He gives you a hand with the spare, and sends you on your way.
Arriving back home, you head down to the basement.
You're just chillin' for about an hour, when a knock comes at the door.
You see the silhouette of a tall man behind the door.
You open up the door.
It's BOOG.
"Sorry, Brad," he says.
"What? Why?"
BOOG pulls a metal pipe from behind his back.
"I borrowed your bike pump without asking," he says, and hands it to you.
"Oh, thanks," you say.
By this time, it's getting late. You head over to your favorite spot in the basement and curl up to sleep.
You're just beginning to drift when you faintly hear a ticking noise.
It's Poppy's old alarm clock. The darn thing's so loud you can hear it through the heat ducts all the way down in the basement.
You're used to
the noise now, and soon you are able to peacefully drift off to sleep.
