"That little Greek kid," says Merv. "He's really cuttin' in on our territory."
"Don't get so worked about about it, Merv," you say. "There's plenty of Sandy to go around."
Merv sighs.
"I guess you're right, Marty," he says, "but if he starts putting the moves on Pam, I'm gonna have to kick his ass right back to Greece."
Another hour goes by and Milton still hasn't come out of the house.
"What the hell?" says Merv. "I'm in and out of there in five minutes -- tops."
"Easy, Merv," you say. "Milton's still learning."
"Well, he's a damn slow learner," says Merv.
Another hour passes.
"C'mon," says Merv. "How 'bout you and me go in there and drag him out?"
"I don't know about that," you say. "But it has been pretty long now -- even for Milty."
"Damn right," says Merv. "I wanna be home for Webster tonight, too."
"What time did he go in there?" you ask.
"I don't know," says Merv. "He was in there when I got here. You'd have to ask Buddy. He was here before me."
Another half hour goes by.
"All right," says Merv. "I'm heading home. ...You coming?"
"Yeah," you sigh. "I guess so."
The two of you are just starting to leave when Buddy shows up again.
"Hey, guys, what's happening?" he says cheerfully. "Woah, you guys weren't still waiting in line were you?"
"Fuckin' Milty's been in there all afternoon," says Merv.
"Did you guys knock on the door or ring the bell or anything?" asks Buddy.
"Um... no," you
admit.
"Well, let's see what's
up," says Buddy.
He hits the doorbell.
About thirty seconds later Sandy comes to the door in her bathrobe.
"Hey, guys, what's up?"
"Is Milty in there?" asks Merv.
"Milty?" says Sandy. "No... he left out the back door about three hours ago."
"Oh," says Buddy. "So then... you're not busy?"
"No," says Sandy. "Not at all. Come on in."
"Cool," says Buddy.
He enters Sandy's house and closes the door behind him.
An hour later you and Merv are still sitting outside Sandy's place.
"Buddy sucks," says Merv. "Remind me to kick his ass back to, uh -- where does he come from?"
"Christy's?"
"Yeah," says Merv. "Remind me to kick his ass back to Christy's sometime."
"OK," you say.
"C'mon," says Merv. "Webster's gonna start in a minute."
The two of you walk back to Merv's place and watch Webster.
It's the one where Web gets a 'D' on his report card, so he uses his computer to change his grade to an 'A+', but in the process, inadventently causes the USSR to nuke Chicago.
When it's over, you walk back home and enter the basement.
As you crawl into your favorite spot and curl up, you have this feeling that you never accomplished what you meant to when you headed over to Sandy's today, but you can't quite remember what it was.
Oh, well.
There's always tomorrow.
